The Ordinary Colours Review.

For a while on The Ordinary website, you may have noticed the section that said Colours – coming soon. In April, it was revealed the 25,000-people waiting list could now exhale and get their hands on the upcoming release but unfortunately since they received orders of more than 250k in the first week of launching and ran out of pumps and at the moment can’t fulfil order immediately, I made an order on 2nd May and didn’t get my order until 27th May but there was an email saying that they were trying to get orders out as quickly as possible. When you’re the hot shit on the streets, everyone wants a piece!

There’s no denying I’m a DECIEM product whore and The Ordinary has taken centre stage with my skincare routine but now make-up? When I hear a primary skincare brand is then going into make-up, I think hmm? but with their affordable prices and how well their skincare is, it's worth a try?
I hate blindly going online to choose shades – yes I know there is the store – but I didn’t do a bad job. I decided to purchase the Serum Foundation with SPF 15 and Coverage Foundation with SPF 15. Their range has 21 different shades and they’re divided into different tone options, cool, warm and neutral.
1 for fair to lighter tones.
2 for medium tones.
3 for darker tones.

Each category is then categories with a second digit from 0 to 3 to indicate depth.

A letter is added to the shade code to identify the undertone:
P (Pink) R (Red) indicate cool undertones for lighter and darker shades.
N indicates a Neutral tone; Y indicates a Yellow undertone.

Example, 1.2P is Light with Pink Undertones & 3.0Y is Medium Dark with Yellow Undertones.
They have a foundation guide here, that can help you out.

The Packaging.
30ml transparent plastic bottles with a lock pump, which you turn to the left to lock and right to open. I like that the bottle is transparent as I've got some foundation that don't have transparent packaging making knowing when you're running out a nightmare but thankfully it's not something I encounter often. The design is travel friendly

The Ordinary Serum Foundation - 2.1 Y (Yellow Undertones) Purchase £5.70
Lightweight medium-coverage…that offer moderate coverage that look natural with a lightweight serum feel
Dare I say, it’s going to be me summer favourite foundation – or just a foundation for those days when I want something light and still offers me a smooth foundation. I don’t mind full coverage but I don’t feel my skin needs full coverage to begin with. I’ve worn this now about 3-4x and can never fault it, the colour match is amazing for me right now as I’m tanned so I’m thinking if this tan doesn’t keep up I may have to think about getting the 1.2 Y – as my tan begins to fade and I start to transition back into dull life in A/W. The fluid is light; you can hear how much more fluidity it has just when the bottle is being shaken, we all hear how tinted moisturiser, BB & CC creams are good alternatives but I think those are a thing of the past for me; I apply with a beauty blender and it seamlessly goes onto the skin, now I don’t know what I was really expecting, I read serum, hear how light it is but it gives quite a good coverage that feels moisturising at the same time. It looks & feels like second skin and gives me good wear time. I tried it with and without primer but I found either way worked okay. The one thing is though it says medium coverage don't expect it to conceal any blemishes or dark circles - those I still had to tend too but that's not a problem.

The Ordinary Coverage Foundation - 2.1 Y (Medium Yellow Undertones) Purchase £5.90
Higher pigment levels than the serum foundations but still offer a smooth finish that avoids the heavy makeup look
First time I tried this I was overwhelmed with the colour, I sat and said to my friend 'erm this is looks a little dark for me!' - was having a real eek moment and even in the bottle it looks darker than the serum which it should as it's more pigmented and gives a higher coverage. But after it had time to settle it didn't oxidise but seemed to settle into the skin better although I feel I'd go down a shade in this regardless. I don't feel caked and I didn't have anything settle in pores if I primed. In regards to coverage, my dark circles were concealed okay but I still did a little correcting/concealing for a brightness so I didn't look so flat. Dark spots also still needed spot correcting but not as much but there's something that isn't making me love it like the serum at this moment. Little on the fence but it may change as I wear it more....

- Note: I paired these with either The Ordinary High-Adherence Blurring Surface Smoother and Primer or High-Spreadability Fluid Primer.

Swatches
The inside of my arm is considerably lighter than other parts of my arm & body bar my backside but it gives you an idea of how the texture appears on the skin...
As you can on my face I did swatches of both and blended them in and once worked into the skin it looks even and smooth.

Have you had the chance to try The Ordinary Colours yet?

I also have to point out within the ingredients it has Bismuth Oxychloride which for some is an issue as it can cause reactions to their skin so do please read the ingredient list. Besides all that it is cruelty free and vegan - whoop whoop!

  11. I don't think I've ever purchased foundation online, as you said you just need to sample it.
I like the sound of these two though. I'd probably wear the moderate coverage more often than the other one, but I need to try them myself :)
