I celebrated my 23rd birthday on Thursday.

I kept it very low key didn't have anything planned - last minute I ended up in West London for a couple of days as a couple of friends were not approving of me just treating it like any other day.

A childhood friend baked me some cupcakes ( image above ) sugary goodness mmmm-mmm. I ended up with THREE birthday cakes on top of that

Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze

Saturday, April 23, 2011

I'm not sure why I never tried these before but I see a swatch of one on Miss Natty's blog & I was automatically sold.

Of course I had trouble locating these and I'm not 100% sure if they are discontinued now ( anyone be able to fill me in on that? ) but the never failing internet managed to show me where to get these and it had only 3 shades available but I was in luck for once with the 2 I had my eye on being the 2 of the 3.

Neverending Nude & Unlimited Nectar

* inhales the scent of these lipglazes ahhhhhh bisto *

I love the scent of these. At least it doesn't smell like the Revlon Colorstay foundation phew wee.

I love how they glide on very easily on the lips and they are not sticky at all. I found that the lasting power was pretty good, I'm quite a fan of Revlon I do think it's a good drug store brand, I can't ever say I've felt too let down by Revlon minus the colorstay foundation - the scent seems to love to break me out.

Unlimited Nectar is a colour I cannot wait to play with, my coral - peach obsession is getting beyond a laughing matter it seems it would be nice to team up with a peach lip-liner.... We shall see..

HD Brows

Thursday, April 21, 2011

Remember my post on my consultation with Michelle at Beauty's Within about HD Brows ?

I went back Tuesday to get them done. I wanted to keep them full and of course gorgeous.

These were my eyebrows before ( eeeeek ) how lovely. I won't lie, I did get use to walking around like this so it was kind of bitter-sweet getting rid of them - crazy I know. I was just so excited!

Michelle told me that she was going to mix some brown and black .... she applied the dye and left it for a little while.

* Let me mention, she asked me what type of music would I like.... 80's - guilty pleasure "The Human League" *

When the dye was taken off I could already see how much more filled in they looked & that was because of the invisible hairs that we cannot see that are invisible to the naked eye, they are so light but with the dye it fills them in and we get a fuller looking brow.

The waxing, we had discussed the shape last week and I was happy with that as I adore low arches so Michelle got to waxing and then tweezing out the hairs - there was also the longer hairs that with HD brows are NOT plucked out they are trimmed down into the brow.

I was then allowed to see my brow ... I was literally in shock too many valley girl "OMG" and near enough tears, it was just amazing. The next eyebrow was then paired up &  the hairs going up towards my hairline were then threaded to blend into the waxing. Michelle's work is very thorough when she took my after photo I looked and I thought it looked great but Michelle spotted a few hairs and when she took the picture again and compared it with the last it looked even more even and paired up.

Me being the eyebrow obsessive didn't even notice and I think it's great that Michelle's work is very precise as she said to me she works on her clients as she would like someone to work on her, she would not allow someone to walk out if they are unsatisfied. To me that's what makes a great business & beauty therapist.

Fellow beauty addicts, what are your thoughts? Would you try HD Brows ?

Lauren Conrad Launches TheBeautyDepartment.Com

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

The Hills alumni Lauren Conrad has launched a new website along with her long time Make-Up artist, Amy Nadine & hairstylist, Kristin Ess. Before Lauren use to seek out help via fashion / beauty magazines which lead to unsuccessful attempts / information.

“Growing up, I never really learned how to do my hair and makeup correctly and the results weren’t always great. Our goal with The Beauty Department is to provide girls and young women with a basic how-to of simplified versions of popular trends and styles that they can recreate themselves.” Lauren Conrad said in a release.

They say that the website will be covering all kinds of hair + makeup how-to’s, nail trends, skin issues, tools, current obsessions & inspirations, as well as countless quick tips.

- I'm quite excited to see what this website will bring to be honest. I've always liked Lauren's simple approach to fashion people who have watched her from Laguna Beach onto The Hills will have seen how she developed and found what works right for her. It's one of the reasons why she is very successful.

H&M - No Mambo Jambo

Monday, April 18, 2011

When I saw this on the H&M website I just knew I had to get this along with my clothes order. It's such a striking, fun colour. Automatically I think of a peacock.

Against the sun light it has a slight iridescent sheen to it that gives it a nice glisten.

At £2.99 it's quite a steal. I've not seen any reviews on H&M nail polishes before but it only needs two coats. It's not watery which is what I always dread it's not to thin or thick and glides on easily.

Have you tried H&M nail polishes before?

HD Brows Consultation

Friday, April 15, 2011

Hey loves,

The Background :

Remember my March/April monthly challenge I had four different ones to keep me occupied and one of the major ones was to grow out my eyebrows.

My birthday is in two weeks so therefore I must get my eyebrows done ( doing something or not ) I was just going to get them threaded as you know I do them myself but as a treat I was going to allow someone on my face - after my last 2007 eyebrow waxing disaster - I knew I had to find someone who has a great reputation and reviews that are 4 - 5 star worthy.

A few months back Sarah from I Heart Cosmetics had a post reviewing and explaining HD Brows I was so intrigued as I normally fill in my eyebrows using MAC Espresso eyeshadow but having a palette like that seemed very handy. I decided against it - for the meantime.

Deep Cleansing MakeUp Brushes

Monday, April 04, 2011

It's fair to say I have been wearing next to nothing in the make-up department in the last month or so but that doesn't mean that make-up brushes should be neglected. I thought it's about time mine was in need of deep cleaning..right to the root of the brushes. I think sometimes we do forget how much bacteria are brushes end up carrying. The same way we wash our faces ... you know that a deep cleanse makes it feel just THAT much more clean & you benefit more from it.

Brushes should be treated that same way, I mean at the end of the day we are using these tools to apply our make-up.

I gathered all my brushes that I use regularly together .... say hello to these grubby fellas.

You may or may not already know about using EVOO ( extra virgin olive oil ) to clean brushes, well what I like to do is get a glass and kind of soak them for 5-10 minutes.

One by one using a paper towel / kitchen paper I start to brush out the gunk.....Look at the second picture...that's out of ONE foundation brush - eekk.

After that is done ... I then clean them with baby shampoo or if there is none of that available good ol' Fairy Antibacterial Liquid. Laying them down to dry I then start taking certain brushes such as my blending, blush & my crease brushes and to help them keep shape I use toilet paper as a brush guard, it's free and simply. All other brushes I reshape and put down to dry on a flat surface on top of a clean towel.

Just take some toilet paper and wrap it taut around the brush handle and then slide the handle downward so your bristles are now within the taut toilet paper and leave to dry.

There's are different ways to clean make-up brushes, mostly revolve around the same products but just different ways in which people find comfortable to clean their brushes, this is just one of mine

I use rubbing alcohol to wipe inside my make-up bags & holders to get rid of any germs, the few ones that are fabric I tend to put those in the washing machine to wash the outside.

I've got into the habit with brushes that I use daily with liquid products (such as my foundation, concealer, lipstick & gel eyeliner) I clean those daily. Not a deep cleanse but I'll run them under the tap with b.shampoo or if you have a daily brush cleaner you can use that. They'll be dry by morning to use once again.

All my other brushes I will clean once a week.

It's important to remember that sometimes when we break out it can be due to the product or just because our brushes are not clean enough and we are just spreading bacteria.

Is there a method you use that you've found works with cleaning your brushes ?

How often do you clean your brushes ? Or are you guilty of not doing it as often as you know you should ?

Thanks for reading ...
